Three checks, totalling $919 paid out of office account controlled by Elizabeth Smith.
Before her conviction for embezzlement, the former Beaufort County Clerk of Court gave Ray Garza over nine hundred dollars for miscellaneous expenses, including medical bills, clothing, and a DUI related education course.
Duffie Stone, 14th Circuit Solicitor, described the payments as "inappropriate", but not criminal.
