THE 827 opens with Artist Workshops: Saturdays and Evenings

Charleston's newest multi-use arts facility, THE 827, has just opened it's doors for art exhibitions, events, artist studio rentals, and artist workshops.

Tuesday April 30th 6pm-8pm Still Life Drawing (Basic Level)    Instructor: Andrew Dyck     $25

Explore how color temperature can be useful in color mixing. The students should bring a few reference photos preferably non-figurative, however all other material will be provided. After a 30 minute review of color temperature each student will create a one of a kind image on canvas using several photos for inspiration.

Wednesday May 1st 6pm-9pm Color Temperature with Acrylics (Basic Level)   Instructor: Reba Edwards    $35

Tuesday May 7th 6pm-8pm Figure Drawing (Intermediate Level)  Instructor: Andrew Dyck       $25

Working from a live model, workshop participants will learn to quickly capture the gesture of a figure accurately in the field so that details can be added later in the studio. The second half of the workshop consists of longer poses that will focus on adding in the details and improving a working knowledge of anatomy for independent illustrative work. Materials included.

Wednesday May 8th 6pm-9pm Intro to Watercolor (Basic Level)   Instructor: Reba Edwards     $40

In this entry-level watercolor class we will explore several introductory methods including dry brush, wet on wet, and simple washes. Each student will create a one of a kind landscape using these techniques. All materials will be provided.

Saturday May 11th 10am-3pm Techniques in Oil Painting (Basic Level)    Instructor: Reba Edwards    $70

In this introductory oil class we will learn many basic techniques in color mixing, glazing, palette set up, brush care, mediums, and clean up. Each student will complete an original composition using reference photos. All material will be provided.

Tuesday May 14th 8pm-9pm Drawing with Collage Materials (Advanced Level) Instructor: Andrew Dyck     $25

Workshop participants will move quickly through a charcoal drawing and then learn techniques on how to integrate various dry media into the composition without detracting from the original composition. Although all the supplies are provided, students may also want to bring their own 2D materials.

Saturday May 18th 1pm-7pm Oil Painting of a Romantic Era Theme (Advanced Level)   Instructor: Andrew Dyck      $85

This extended workshop will tackle the logistics of painting an entire scene of romantic era subject matter, including historic furnishings and two models in historic garb. Workshop participants will begin their basic drawings in charcoal, develop their compositions through the process of underpainting, and refine their paintings with the neoclassical technique of overglazing.
