Restoration versus preservation: it's a bit like a historical novel versus a history book.
Jim Rutenberg recently used two of Charleston's grand plantations, Drayton Hall and Magnolia plantation, to examine how and why the two historical monoliths diverged.
It's a lengthy and good piece well worth a read, hop over to The New York Times to take a read.
