Artist Long brings work to Holy City

Known around the world for his work with fresco, Ben Long is putting his touch on the Hospice Center in Mount Pleasant. A friend of his, the late Mabel Stowe Query asked Long to do the fresco based on Psalm 23 a couple of years ago.

From The Post and Courier:

According to Long's assistant, a large portion of the work already is complete in the Peace Chapel at the center, which is part of Hospice of Charleston. Long and several of his apprentices have been planning and working on the complex fresco techniques for some time.

Long's friend, Mabel Stowe Query, who recently died in hospice care, commissioned the project nearly two years ago, telling him to paint an image based on Psalm 23, which begins, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want ..." She gave no further instructions.

You can see a photo gallery of the project from The Post and Courier. The newspaper also published a much more in-depth story on the project last month, which is worth reading.

The Hospice Center is part of the Hospice of Charleston and is located at 676 Wando Park Boulevard off Long Point Road:
