Do you like South Carolina's natural beauty? Do you like taking photos?

Well, snap a good shot in on of South Carolina's state parks and you could win "an Edisto folding kayak outfitted with a special fish and photo package" valued at $2,500.

The State Park Service is holding the photography competition to mark 75 years. The service will also be awarding monthly prizes, they say:
Monthly prizes -- including State Park Passports and more -- will be awarded in each division. Subject categories include mammals, birds, other wildlife, plants and "connecting people to South Carolina state parks." The latter category can include anything from the wide range of activities -- from paddling to picnicking and fishing to birdwatching -- that have made the parks an integral part of South Carolina life since the first were built in the 1930s.

The contest runs through the end of April 2009, there is no entry fee. Enter your photos online.

Or if you just want eye candy, the service already has up past monthly winners and entries -- but they desperately need to better optimize their images, the ones there are quite jaggy.

Why am I just posting it now? I didn't notice it back in May, and this article in The Post and Courier alerted me to it.
