Sunday brings numerous tributes to Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Sunday church services in the Charleston-area brought numerous tributes to Martin Luther King Jr.

The Post and Courier reports, in part:

Those attending the myriad Charleston area events paid tribute to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. even as they looked forward to a new presidential administration.

The Charleston Symphony Orchestra Gospel Choir offered a King-themed concert at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. At morning church services, preachers spoke forcefully of King's accomplishments and legacy — and the work left to be done. And Morris Street Baptist Church hosted the 37th annual Tri-County Ecumenical Service in honor of King, an event that filled half the sanctuary on a cold, rainy day with worshippers ready to commemorate the civil rights leader with fellowship, prayer and song. Pastor Leonard O. Griffin presided over the service.
