Last year Americans spent $2.6 billion on flowers and $1.53 billion on gifts for Mother’s Day. This year, Lowcountry Local First is challenging Charlestonians to show mom they care about her and the community by purchasing her Mother’s Day gift from a local business.

“The choice to buy local for Mother's Day is easy, and the benefits for our community are endless,” said Kate Gebler, Membership Manager of Lowcountry Local First. “Buying from your friends and neighbors, supports job creation, is an investment in our community, keeps Charleston unique and encourages local prosperity.”

It’s easy to think locally when purchasing your gift for mom. Treat her to a night off cooking with Made from Scratch Delivery’s Mother’s Day menu. Send a dozen cookies from Charleston Cookie Company. Book a relaxing day through Urban Nirvana. Adorn her with a freshwater pearl set from Croghan’s Jewel Box for $99. Or, spice up her kitchen with some colorful and stylish recycled glass kitchenware from Fisher Recycling.

“The saying “it’s the thought that counts" seems to especially apply for Mother's Day,” said Gebler. “Choosing from an array of truly outstanding local businesses to pick your gift means you are already on the right track to giving Mom a thoughtful gift this year.”
