Update January 7: They'll be open "very" soon.

Chef Robert Carter and managing partner Brad Creger have announced the opening date of Rutledge Cab Company is slated for mid-December 2012.

Located in Charleston’s Wagener Terrace neighborhood at the intersection of Rutledge Avenue and Mt. Pleasant Street, the restaurant is a continuation of Carter’s foray into the casual dining market. Rutledge Cab Company is Carter’s eclectic neighborhood restaurant and bar; it is a retro concept that will offer throwback cocktails, craft beer and classic service. Originally a gas station, the building formally served as D’s Grocery.

“Brad and I wanted to craft a relaxed environment without compromising on service and quality,” says chef-owner Carter. “You can stop by for a cocktail or join friends for a full dinner. Wagener Terrace is a perfect fit for this concept and I, along with my entire team, am thrilled to join the community.”

Rutledge Cab Company’s all-day menu will feature charcoal-grilled steaks and seafood, grilled pizzas and grilled wings as well as classic sandwiches including a Reuben and turkey melt, both crafted to perfection with house-made meats and local breads. Other menu highlights include a shredded lamb pizza with goat cheese, toasted pistachios and fresh herbs; beer poached spiced shrimp with pickled onion and lime; French onion soup with rye croutons and gruyere; an olive oil tuna sandwich with sliced eggs, Spanish cheese and caper-Dijon mayo; a pork “ham” chop with peach relish; and a classic burger. Widely known for his much-celebrated coconut cake, Carter has created a new signature cake for Rutledge Cab Company as well as other desserts, including southern fried hand-pies filled with fresh fruits.

The dining room includes seating for 70 and the outdoor patio seats 80. An ample 45 parking spaces are available for guests outside the restaurant, as is a bike rack for cyclists.

Located at 1300 Rutledge Avenue in downtown Charleston, Rutledge Cab Company will be open daily beginning at 10:30 a.m., and will remain open throughout the day with late-night dining until 1:00 a.m. The restaurant will also be open starting at 8 a.m. for breakfast and brunch on both Saturdays and Sundays beginning in early January 2013.
