Sure, vendors and businesses along the City Market have already scored big with the redesign of Charleston's tourist mecca, but the Charleston City Paper notes they may soon be getting another win.

SCE&G has told City of Charleston staff that the utility plans to remove the poles, likely running the lines underground as drainage improves.

And, yes, the City Paper also drew the conclusion that this may well be a victory in the war on the Market-East Bay street gum poles that steam and $1,092 fine threats could never provide.
