Wonder Works toy store opening third location in renovated Market Street Great Hall

Christine Osborne, owner of Wonder Works in Mt. Pleasant, SC and West Ashley, SC, happily announced that the local toy store is opening its third Charleston-area retail location Monday, June 27. The new store is located in the renovated Great Hall at City Market in downtown Charleston.

“We are ecstatic to bring Wonder Works to the downtown Charleston community,” said Osborne. “As we grow, sharing our ‘wonderfuntastical’ toys, gadgets and gifts with locals and tourists alike is what makes our stores like no other. The renovated Great Hall is an incredible space, and we are privileged to be a part of such a notable area of our city.”

Despite the recession in South Carolina, Wonder Works has continued to grow and expand since its Mt. Pleasant founding in 1990. The retailer hosted its first ever Wonderfest this month, a free family summer kickoff festival that drew 2,000 guests to its West Ashley location and featured hot summer toys, local musical acts, video games, food, activities, child entrepreneurs and pet adoptions.

As part of its mission, Wonder Works strives to support many local organizations and nonprofits in the community. The retailer donated $2,000 from the day’s sales at both store locations to benefit Wonderfest’s select charity, Abby’s Friends, a local organization dedicated to raising awareness for juvenile diabetes. Last December, Wonder Works also teamed up with MUSC Children’s Hospital to benefit Happy Wheels, a cart that provides toys and books each Thursday to children receiving treatment at the hospital. As a result of its Facebook Toy FunRaiser, Wonder Works donated 7,000 toys to the hospital in March.

“Giving back to the community is such an important part of what we do at Wonder Works,” said Osborne. “This new location allows our stores to make an even bigger difference, and we can’t wait to spread our magic even more through Charleston.”
