Audit reveals $395K missing from Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services

A June 2009 state audit found something a little fishy in S.C.'s Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services: somehow $395,000 had magically disappeared.

The missing money came from an account for a former restitution center operated by the department. Peter O'Boyle, a spokesman for the probation department, is saying that the fraud was committed by persons outside the agency, but nobody else has wanted to address the matter.

The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) continues to investigate the matter.
