The third installment of Charleston's Pecha Kucha took place Wednesday evening outside the Civic Design Center at 85 Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston.

Read more stories on this subject in our Pecha Kucha topic page.Master of Ceremonies -- and Post and Courier Preview editor by day -- Marcus Amaker introduced each of the six speakers with a personally crafted haiku.

Though presenters were given six minutes and 40 seconds to speak or perform the topic of their choice they had to use 20 slides, and were only allowed to spend 20 seconds on each slide.

Presenters included local photographer and Arts' Institute professor Kevin Hoth, executive chef Iverson Brownell (who made the crowd very, very hungry with pictures of edgy cuisine from events across the United States), architect Jane Frederick, Josh Martin of the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League, Julia Jaskwhich of the Afro-Latino Dance Company and Ryan Cockrell of Pour it Now.

A crowd of over 400 Charlestonians -- and a few others just outside the boundaries of the outdoor location -- watched as speakers discussed topics ranging from inspirational architecture, and the need for a downtown skate park to a demonstration of afro-latino dance and progressive Charleston photography.

You can learn more about the presenters on the Charleston Pecha Kucha Web site.

I'm waiting with baited breath for the next Pecha Kucha (slated for early fall), and secretly hoping they'll return to a space which allows bar service.
