Brewvival sparking a whole week of beer events in Charleston

Unless you've been living under some kind of Prohibition-rock, you already know that Charleston Brewvival is coming up this Saturday, a beer festival promising to bring all the best from the world of craft brewing to the Lowcountry.

One of the many things setting this fest apart from others is that many actual brewers and brewery reps will be in attendance.  But who wants to stay in Charleston for just one day?  Apparently, not brewers or brewery reps.  These folks are coming in town early and setting up a plethora of events to keep you salivating until Saturday.

Wednesday, February 24th:

Laura Albert's is holding a draft promo with Foothills Brewing.  This will feature the Charleston-debut of Red, their Irish-style Amber, as well as Sexual Chocolate Imperial Stout, Torch Pilsner, and Seeing Double IPA.  Scott Smith from Foothills will be on hand to beat you at cornhole (was that a challenge?), there will be live music, growler discounts, and dinner is available in-house.  5-7pm, 891 Island Park Drive in Daniel Island.

Thursday, February 25th:

Chai's Lounge & Tapas presents a Stone Brewing beer dinner, featuring CEO, Co-Founder, and Brewvival keynote speaker, Greg Koch.  Details are slim for now, but I can tell you the price is $65, and part of the pairings will include an awesome vertical of '08, '09, and '10 Old Guardian Barleywine.  6-930pm, 462 King Street downtown, call (843) 722-7313 for reservations.

Foothills is at it again, this time with a draft event at Closed for Business.  Tap list includes Red, Torch Pilsner, People's Porter, and a very special cask of Hoppyum IPA that has been dry-hopped with 3 hop varieties, and underwent a honey addition during secondary fermentation.  I'm calling this one HoppSlamYum, just for my own amusement.  Did I mention if you buy a pint, you can keep the glass? 6pm-until, 453 King Street downtown.

Friday, February 26th:

Charleston Beer Exchange is hosting Greg Koch from Stone and doing growler fills of Sublimely Self-Righteous ale, a stellar black IPA.  He'll sign anything and everything you've got, and will have some Stone stickers to give out.  5pm-7pm, 14 Exchange Street downtown.

From there it's just a short stroll to The Griffon Pub, who is hosting both Patrick Rue from The Bruery and Grady Hull from New Belgium Brewing.  The Bruery will be offering Saison de Lente, and Rugbrød, a traditional rye beer I've been dying to try.  New Belgium will have their Lips of Faith Biere de Mars as well.  8pm-until, 18 Vendue Range downtown.

Saturday, February 27th:

Brewvival.  'Nuff said.

Sunday, February 28th:

The local dream-team bringing you Brewvival closes out the weekend with the annual bottle release of COAST Brewing's flagship, Blackbeerd Imperial stout, at the Charleston Beer Exchange.  If my numbers are right, it's an 800-bottle release, with an initial limit of one 12-bottle case per person, which could be adjusted based on demand.  Yes, there will be a line.  Yes, you should get there early.  Yes, it's worth it.

As you peruse this, please drop us a line or leave a comment if something is missing or inaccurate.  More details may be disclosed as we get closer to each event, and if they are then we'll do our best to update accordingly.

Yours truly is taking on the Herculean task of attending at least one beer event each day from Wednesday through Sunday.  If you see me snapping pics with a blue Kodak and raising a pint, come say hello.  I'll also be tweeting from @CHSBeer throughout the week from and about said events.
