Horry County schools focus on Facebook

Horry County schools are focusing on a new way to connect with parents and students.  "Like" them on Facebook and you'll be granted access information and frequent updates.

WBTW reports that as the new school year begins, Horry County school officials are requiring that all schools in the system set up and maintain a Facebook page.  Some teachers are taking that one step further and creating a page for their class.

Parents, how do you feel about this?  Is it a welcomed step that will help you interact better with your child's teacher and parents of other children in the class?  Imagine asking questions about upcoming events, school trips, or setting up playdates without having to pick up the phone or send an email.  Sounds pretty convenient, right?  But what if you're someone who avoids Facebook like the plague, or has only limited access to it?  Will you feel that you'll now be missing out on something?  Does anyone have privacy concerns?  Tell us how you feel.  Is Facebook a step in the right direction towards the future of parent/teacher/classroom communications?
