Chief Kamu is a native Hawaiian and has brought his aloha spirit to the Grand Strand with a whole lot of hula.

Last night fellow Digiteler, Andre Pope, and I. along with our young families, attended Chief Kamu's Fire and Hula show at the Springmaid Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach.  This kid-friendly evening consisted of a Hawaiian dinner buffet and an hour of entertainment. 

Chief Kamu, along with his beautiful dancers, taught us a bit about Polynesian culture and the history and different types of hula.  Some are very graceful and other forms are rigid and powerful.  Some require the dancers to wear no facial expression. A smile would be a sign of disrespect. To end the performance, Chief Kamu twirled, ate, balanced, and handled fire on the stage to the delight of the crowd.

The Fire and Hula show is held outside on the grassy area behind the Springmaid Beach Resort, just in front of Springmaid Pier.  In the case of inclement weather, it is held indoors under the conference center.  The show is scheduled for one more week but there is a possibility it will be extended.  For more information or to get tickets you can call (843) 315-7100.
