Local gallery's new show is only 'X-Rated' in an FTC way

The Charleston City Paper's Erica Jackson was just brimming with excitement over the Corrigan Gallery's new show "X-Rated."

And you can't fault her for being so, the show was hyped: "We are here to present art and stir the pot! In the backroom - behind a curtain - guests will be carded at the front door."

Only Jackson would have to leave the Queen Street gallery to go home not haunted by grotesque paintings dancing through her head.

Take a look at what the show is, and isn't in her brief review.

Though, I do like the notion that the fact the show's relative tameness is so tamped down is more interesting social commentary than the work itself.

The show is up through tomorrow, September 5.

And The Charleston Observer points out that a gallery show around the corner may have one image that is more raw, yet subtle. -- And that show was in a church.
