Opening tonight: CofC Student artwork salon and 'Young Contemporaries'

Every spring, College of Charleston student work is selected for the Young Contemporaries and those not accepted will exhibit in the "Salon des Refusés".

Work will be on display through May 4, but there is a free opening tonight, April 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art.

For the 2013 exhibition, visiting artist and curator Scott Stulen selected 79 student works for display. Local artist Hirona Matsuda will select 17 works to receive awards. A total of 616 submissions were received for the exhibition, including 231 paintings, 117 drawings, 12 mixed media, 62 prints, 142 photographs, 6 videos, and 46 sculptures.
