Come audition for American Idol in North Charleston (updated x3: video, photos)

Update July 23: Yesterday was the big day.

The Post and Courier reports that nearly 9,500 eager contestants showed up for the first round of competition today. The show's host, Ryan Seacrest, was on hand to rile the troops and get some footage of the massive crowd wrapping around the Coliseum.

First reporting: 'American Idol' is once again setting up in the Charleston area to scout for talent from across the Southeast. 

On Friday, auditions will be held at North Charleston Coliseum for season 11 of the show. Registration will begin today at 7 a.m. and continue until Friday morning. 

Here's details on how it will work:

Wristbands will be distributed from approximately 7:00 AM on Wednesday, July 20, until approximately 8:00 AM on Friday, July 22. Auditioners will not be permitted to camp out. Once auditioners obtain their wristbands, they will be asked to return to the North Charleston Coliseum by 5:00 AM on Saturday, July 2.

Check in for Affiliate winners is BY 7:00AM at the registration desk on Audition day. You must have your letter AND I.D. WITH you. If you cannot locate the AI Registration Desk, check with American Idol Security or an American Idol Staff member (in the AI t-shirts) for the exact location if you cannot find it.
