Saturday marks the first day of May, and the onslaught of Charleston events is right on its tail. There are some big things happening in the Lowcountry this weekend, and by golly, those thunderstorms predicted for Saturday better stay away.

Props to the Charleston City Paper for once again cranking out a fantastic round-up of the best of the best of what Charleston has to offer. Click on over and show 'em the love.

The biggies of the weekend include the Charleston Dog Show, North Charleston Arts Festival, a record setting sea turtle release on Isle of Palms, the annual Charleston Cinco de Mayo festival, and the 2010 USA Rugby South Championships at Ansonborough Field.

Some other events to note are Free Comic Book Day at Captain's Comics and Toys, Affordabike's Summer Bicycle Blowout with beers and burgers, and 7th Annual Run, Forrest, Run 5K at the RiverDogs stadium.

All of the aforementioned are just a slice of what's in store in the new couple days. Check out our complete Events Calendar for all of the goods.
