September shmeptember. October is here, and it is arguably the best month in Charleston.

The humidity drops off, the big events come out to play, and of course, there's that little holiday known as Halloween. 

To get you into the Halloween spirit right off the bat, Friday night marks the opening night of Boone Hall Plantation's super-creepy "Fright Nights" attractions. This year, "Fright Nights" features four attractions: a vampire riddle haunted mansion, a haunted hayride, a psycho clown sideshow and a spooked out corn maze.

In keeping with the Halloween spirit, the South Carolina Aquarium is turning into the Scary'um all month long.

If you're thinking, "Screw scary, bring on the beer!" then I hear ya. And so does Closed for Business. That's why they're getting the jump on the beer and sausage loving season by hosting their own Oktoberfest on Friday and Saturday. Get your German fix during Oktoberfest, then on Sunday, head out to Wannmaker County Park for the 2010 Latin American Festival. Enjoy an afternoon full of authentic cuisine, dance, crafts, culture and art.

Speaking of culture and art, this Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. is the French Quarter Art Walk.  On Saturday, all are invited to a free artist lecture from Susan Lenz at the City Gallery at Waterfront Park. Lenz's current installation, 'Personal Grounds,' is a lead visual arts exhibit for the MOJA Arts Festival, which continues throughout the weekend.

Two big concerts this weekend are the Widespread Panic show out at the North Charleston Coliseum featuring Dead Confederate, The Movement, Yonder Mountain String Band and Leslie, and the Family Circle Stadium R&B concert with headliner Patti LaBelle and openers Boyz II Men.
