Charleston is brimming with big name, high-attendance events this weekend, and it's better to get a jump on the good stuff than be left behind scratching your head.
First up, the 2011 Cooper River Bridge Run. The 10K race through downtown has already pulled in 40,000 registered runners. That's a lot of visitors and a lot of extra cars on the road, so forget about driving anywhere on Saturday morning.
On Sunday, the James Island County Park will host the 20th annual Lowcountry Cajun Festival. Bringing Louisiana to the Lowcountry, the Cajun Fest is a full day of Zydeco music, Cajun and Creole foods, children’s activities, a craft market, and all-around fun.
The Family Circle Cup returns to "America's Best Tennis Town" this weekend. The top female players in the world, literally, will take to the courts at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island on April 2nd. The tournament continues through April 10th.
Featuring over 200 art and crafts vendors, local restaurants, children’s rides, and local businesses and civic organization, the Summerville Family YMCA brings back the Flowertown Festival this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Flowertown Festival attracts over 200,000 annually and has been a signature event of the YMCA since its inception in 1972.
In addition to these big name events, the College of Charleston is hosting a Jazz Guitar Festival, Home Team BBQ and friends are hosting a Cuban-themed party to benefit Operation Home, Famous Joe’s Annual .1 mile Edgewater Bridge Run will get you a better buzz than workout, and much more.
