Book signing, reception with food writer Jessica B. Harris

On Friday, May 13th, Slow Food Charleston is hosting a book signing and cocktail reception with celebrated “High on the Hog” author Jessica B. Harris from 6 to 8 p.m.

In her book, Harris chronicles the evolution of African-American food from everyday West African dietary staples to foods prepared pre-Civil War, followed by the emergence and impact of those on restaurants, chefs, and current eating trends.

The New York Times has a solid review of the book; read it here.

There is no charge to attend the event, which will be taking place at 18 State Street in downtown Charleston. Guests are encouraged to bring cash or checks to purchase a signed copy of High on the Hog. A portion of all book sales will benefit Slow Food Charleston.
