Mayor Joe Riley will offer his public support in favor of Project OKURASE on January 22 at Charleston City Hall.

The mayor’s presentation will commence at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22, and will pay tribute to the work of this local organization whose mission is dedicated to empowering people in rural communities in Ghana, West Africa.

“We’re so appreciative of Mayor Riley’s support, vision and tremendous respect for Charleston's West African heritage and what Project OKURASE means to all of us here in the Lowcountry,” says Dr. Cynthia Cupit Swenson, co-director of Project OKURASE. “The rich African traditions have a tremendous influence on the Charleston community and Mayor Riley truly gets that we are circling back with hope.”
