North Charleston Dinner Theatre Series continues with Shakespeare’s 'Romeo & Juliet'

Gloria and Milner Martin star in the Baillie Players' performance of "Romeo & Juliet"

Another fabulous season of dinner theatre continues in North Charleston on Friday, November 4th, with Romeo & Juliet, performed by The Baillie Players.

The Baillie Players began touring this unique production of Shakespeare’s beautiful story of love and loss this past July. The one-hour script, written by Tim Brosnan, was derived from the original Shakespeare. Brosnan’s rendition makes The Bard’s tragic tale accessible to all and truly entertaining. The production stars Buren Martin, the founder and director of the Baillie Players. His children, Gloria and Milner Martin, portray the title roles, effectively delivering the original language of Shakespeare. Buren and his wife, Dorothy, play multiple roles, including a narrator who brings the language back down to earth, often with much humor, for the audience.

The Baillie Players is a professional touring theater company based in Brunson, South Carolina. The group’s parent company, Southeastern Theatrical Productions, was formed in 1981 in an effort to deliver live theater to non-traditional theater spaces in areas where live theater is seldom seen. Their repertoire includes Broadway comedies and musicals, as well as classical and original works performed for both school and community groups throughout the United States.

The Dinner Theatre will be presented at the Charleston Area Convention Center Ballroom (adjacent to the North Charleston Performing Arts Center) at 5001 Coliseum Drive in North Charleston. Dinner for the evening is catered by Embassy Suites and features drunken pork tenderloin with granny smith apple and red onion relish. The ballroom doors open at 7 p.m. for dinner.

Tickets are $37 per person, but group discounts are available. Ticket price includes dinner, play, and gratuity. Parking is free. A cash bar will be available.
