Painting and sculpture by Aggie Zed

Painting and sculpture by Aggie Zed will be on show through the end of June at the historic Poinsett House, 24 State St., downtown Charleston.

About the artist from Carolina Arts:
Zed grew up on Sullivans Island, SC, and graduated from the University of South Carolina before moving to Richmond, VA. After establishing her studio, Zed began working with clay, producing remarkable objects ranging from masks and suits of "armor" to haunting figures that recall myths of the Minotaur and Circe's shape-shifting incantations. Her drawings are laden with personal symbols that invite multiple interpretations, and her more complicated sculptures command attention in a way that belies their relatively small size.

Zed has been the recipient of a Virginia Museum Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Arts award in sculpture.
