First reporting:

The public is invited to bring up to three personal items of African American history for identification and care taking advice on Saturday, May 30.

The College of Charleston's Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture is collaborating with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture to host a program to help Charleston area residents identify and preserve items of historical and cultural significance.

Reserve your space in advance and bring up to three personal items for a 20-minute, one-on-one professional consultation with experts on how to care for them. Those wishing to have items reviewed must make reservations online at treasures@si.edu or by calling (202) 633-9599.

The event is free and will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Burke High School located at 244 President Street.
