Wild Flour, downtown's freshest bake shop is holding a special pre-opening party tonight at the new 73 Spring Street spot.

Read more stories on this subject in our bakery topic page.We swung by before the official party, which is set for 7 p.m., and had a chat with owner Lauren Mitterer. The University of Virginia grad is thrilled about the new space and the opportunity to continue her fine work in Charleston's bake scene. You may recognize Mitterer's name from her other job at Mount Pleasant's Red Drum.

Wild Flour boasts both an indoor space as well as a side patio decorated with benches, a table and paper lanterns. The inside has two cozy, pillow-strewn nooks in which to relax and enjoy some of the delicious pastries.

A few of the morsels we sampled included a perfectly flakey pie crust with cinnamon apples and sharp cheddar cheese, a cupcake with whipped cream, coconut shards and lemon glaze as well as a savory caramelized onion, garlic and goat cheese tart.

The official opening of Wild Flour is still up in the air, but be sure to make your way up Spring Street and get a taste of what's to come. Can't make it tonight? Take a peek at the photos we snapped during our visit.
