The College of Charleston's Department of Physics and Astronomy is doing its open houses at the observatory again, which means you, dear public, have a great chance to go check out the stars. And it's free.

Read more stories on this subject in our observatory topic page. The fun starts Friday, September 18, at 7:30 p.m. and runs until 10.

Here's a bit about what you'll see? "The main 16-inch telescope under the dome will be pointed at an interesting object that evening," the college said in a release. "There also will be three or four 8-inch telescopes on the observation deck pointing to planets and other objects in the night sky."

The observatory is on the top floor of the Rita Liddy-Hollings Science Center located at 58 Coming Street in downtown Charleston.

The College will hold more open houses in the Observatory on the third Friday of each month.
