On Sunday, October 16, a celebration will come to Shem Creek with events benefiting the Mount Pleasant Land Conservancy (MPLC).

Offered are guided kayak tours by Nature Adventures Outfitters, the Half Moon Outfitters “Golden Nugget Stand-Up Paddleboard Race”, and a “Post Paddle Party” with live music, BBQ, and beer.

A donation from Nature Adventures Kayak and Canoe Outfitters sponsors three, two-hour Naturalist Guided Kayak Paddles among the shrimp boats and amazing scenery found in the heart of historic Mount Pleasant; beginners and families are welcome.  Participants will paddle through the saltwater marsh creek and journey out to the 22 acre Crab Bank Island Preserve, which is home to thousands of nesting shorebirds.  This is a great family paddle the kids and adults will love!

There are 3 different departure times for the guided paddle event to choose from and all equipment is provided.  The tour times are 9:00am, 10:30am, and 12:00noon.  The cost to participate is $40 for ages 13 and up and $25 for ages 4-12.  Reservations are required.  100% of the proceeds are collected by and donated to the MPLC.  The trips depart from Nature Adventures Outfitters on Shem Creek.  Register online at www.mountpland.org or by calling (843) 224-1849.

Half Moon Outfitters is hosting the “Golden Nugget” Stand-Up Paddleboard 10K & 5K Races on Shem Creek starting at 3pm on the 16th as well.  Proceeds from the SUP race will go the Mount Pleasant Land Conservancy.  Registration and information for the race can be found by calling the Mount Pleasant store on Coleman Blvd. at (843) 881-9472 or online at www.halfmoonoutfitters.com.

To round out the day, the MPLC is hosting the “Paddle ‘N Party on Shem Creek” between 3pm -7pm at the Lighthouse on the Creek (next to Red’s Ice House) with great BBQ, local brews, live music featuring Henrys Attic, fantastic   silent auction items, and harbor cruises.  Advanced tickets to the event are $25 for adults and free for children 12 and under.  Tickets on the day of the event will be $30 for adults.  Food, beer and wine are all included in the entry fee.  Thanks to a charitable donation by the Palmetto Breeze, attendees will also have the choice to buy a $5 ticket for a 1-hour catamaran cruise in Charleston harbor!

The Mount Pleasant Land Conservancy (MPLC) is an independent 501 (c)(3) non-profit land trust that exist to protect land, natural resources and important civic open spaces in East Cooper and Charleston County.   We do this primarily by acquiring land and accepting voluntary conservation easements to maintain natural and open spaces for public use, appreciation and enjoyment forever.   We also work to educate the public about why land conservation is essential to our sense of place and quality of life in our communities.

Additional information about this benefit is available by calling  the MPLC office at (843) 224-1949 or online at www.mountpland.org.
