In light of the Halloween season and to support Charleston’s film-makers, Mellow Mushroom Avondale has collaborated with The Charleston International Film Festival to compile a list of gruesome short-length films that will be screened on Thursday October 27th at 10 p.m.

Admission is free and the films will roll beginning at 10 p.m. Wear your costumes to help set the mood and feed your inner monster with $10 domestic buckets and $5 small 1-topping pizzas. Ten percent of the nights’ proceeds will be donated to the Charleston International Film Festival to help benefit their 2012 festival.

Films will include:

  • "Sebastian's Voodoo" by Director/Writer/Producer Joaquin Baldwin – 5 minutes A voodoo doll must find the courage to save his friends from being pinned to death.
  • "Locker 13: Down and Out" by Director Matthew Mebane – 15 minutes Tommy Novak, an aging boxer in the twilight of his career, wants nothing more than to go out with a win, and when a mysterious old janitor gives him that chance, Tommy's conscience suddenly becomes his main combatant.
  • "Room to Breathe" by Director/Writer/Producer Steven Leslie Johnson – 13 minutes A henpecked husband deals with his wife.
  • "Rations" by Director/Writer/Producer Craig Ouellette – 6 minutes A couple is lost in the desert with only one bottle of water, and a long way to go. Do you Ration?
  • "The Familiar" by Director/Writer Kody Zimmerman – 22 minutes "The Familiar" is for anyone who has pursued a dream only to watch it slowly twist into a nightmare. Be careful what you wish for...it may come back to bite you in the end!
  • "Bad MistakeI" (Mauvaise Erreur) by Director/Writer Xavier Hibon – 6 minutes Every Friday, Sophie and her friends organize what they call “Scary Fridays” watching horror movies on DVD. Sophie is not scared anymore by horror movies, but tonight she’s going to have the most frightening night of her life.
  • "Excision" by Writer/Director Richard Bates, Jr. – 18 minutes Pauline has a younger sister who suffers from cystic fibrosis. Aware that she will one day need a lung transplant, she becomes convinced she can perform the operation herself.
