Update (December 10):

Good news for beer lovers with facial hair!  Members of the Holy City Beard & Moustache Society will get pints of this wonderful brew, which is standing at an A+ on beeradvcoate after 4 glowing reviews, for a mere $3.

The clean shaven will have to fork out $3.50.  Still a great deal.

Check out Coast's blog for more info.

First reporting:

After just recently releasing Porter, Smoked on the market, Coast Brewing will be tapping a special firkin of their new seasonal at The Griffon on December 16th at 7pm.

A quick explanation is given at their blog:

A firkin of our smoked porter will be served via a traditional, portable beer engine. Porter, Smoked is an American Porter brewed with 40% Briess Cherry Wood Smoked Malt. An intensely smoky but well rounded classic porter is the  result. We expect the beer engine to be the perfect way to serve this porter giving it an incredible smooth and creamy character!

Two quick points of clarity.  A firkin (or cask) refers to a small keg of very fresh beer, aptly named cask ale, which is unfiltered, unpasteurized, and not force carbonated, so it must be consumed quickly after opening.  A beer engine is generally a hand-operated device for getting beer out of the cask and into your glass.  I think that's enough beer geekery for one day.

You can find The Griffon at 18 Vendue Range, downtown.
