Long-awaited Italian dining at Trattoria Lucca finally arrives

Update September 23: Well, it's officially hapening today. They're suggesting reservations, but walk-ins are welcome. (843) 973-3323.

Normal hours will be:
Monday through Thursday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Friday & Saturday 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Sunday (Family Supper Sunday) seatings at 4:00 PM, 6:00 PM, & 8:00 PM

Looks like they had to give in on having late hours to appease the neighborhood, as someone who doesn't live there, I'm bummed about it.

Update September 18: Word just came from the restaurant's marketing people that the last permit failed to come through and Trattoria Lucca is aiming for a soft-launch Tuesday, September 23.

Given what they've gone through so far, I'm not surprised.

Original post: After being delayed many, many times to get the necessary bureaucratic OKs, Trattoria Lucca is finally opening Thursday, September 17.

The aim is to "marry the Italian and Charlestonian dining traditions by placing special emphasis on home-made cuisine," including a "a first-come, first-serve communal dining table." Sounds very interesting.

It's a good idea that will likely have good food behind it, as it's an effort by Ken Vedrinski, who gained fame at the Woodlands Resort and Inn and his upscale Italian restaurant, Sienna. But don't fret, they're aiming at offering reasonable prices.

No word yet on if they were able to fulfill their aim of providing bowls of pasta as late as 1 a.m., we'll let you know.
