It was tempting to title this article "Free Beer" just to get the proper attention it deserves by the target demographic, but I believe in truth in journalism, so here it goes.  September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and Grand Strand Regional Medical Center is making it easy to get more information or a screening at the following events.

Tuesday, September 13 at 6:00 p.m. - Seminar on the prevalence of prostate cancer and new treatments at HealthFinders at Coastal Grand Mall.

Monday, September 19 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m - prostate screening at South Strand Senior Health Center, Myrtle Beach

Tuesday, September 20 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. - prostate screening at Grand Strand Urology in Myrtle Beach

Wednesday, September 21 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. -prostate screening at Carolina Forest Senior Health Center

Thursday, - prostate screening at the North Strand Senior Health Center, Little River.

Prostate screenings are recommended for men ages 40 - 70.  Men with a family history of prostate cancer are at higher risk, as are African-American men who are at twice the risk of other men and should be screened starting at age 35.

Pre-registration is required by calling (843) 692-4444.  Registration forms are available at all the locations and Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

And while it's not local, this video tells a compelling story about a young, healthy man getting tested and unexpectedly finding himself with a prostate cancer diagnosis.  He's working to change the culture that encourages men to snub testing until they are in the their mid-fifties. He created the Blue Cure Foundation.

Men, you know what you should do.  Ladies, encourage those men to be proactive.
