Charleston's Ronald McDonald house marking 25 years

On September 4 the local Ronald McDonald House will marks is 25th year of offering low-cost stays to those with sick children. Charleston owes its house in no small part to those who made donations in memory of 14-year-old Kelley Conrey who died in 1981.

The Post and Courier writes about how the financial burden on families was obvious even then and the Conrey's mother had asked for the donation to help "families of hospitalized children to meet their food and shelter needs during stressful extended stays."

The story is a good read on how one the home that has helped some 10,000 families got started.
