State Senator picks up $30,000 cannon replica
Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell worked with Steen Cannons to get a replica of an 1861 6-pounder cannon made, complete with a metal engraving taken from a cannon made by Tredegar Iron Works for South Carolina.
The gun will be fired at the Battle of Charleston re-enactment ($10) at 2 p.m. at Legare Farms on Johns Island (map).
But if you can't make it to see it fire in person, here's a recording of another Civil War 6-pounder firing. I suspect it's more fun in person.
