Fire memorial service; city offices to be closed

A memorial service will honor the nine city firefighters who died in last year’s Sofa Super Store fire. City offices will be closed through noon Wednesday so employees can attend the ceremony.

Wednesday, June 18 2008, 10 a.m. at the Gaillard downtown. Seating is limited, a closed-circuit television will be set up in the Gaillard’s Exhibition Hall for overflow attendance.

On Wednesday, a service for families of the firefighters will be held at the former site of the Sofa Super Store. This ceremony will be closed to the public.

Parking will be available at the Gaillard Auditorium garage at Calhoun Street and Elizabeth Street. Parking will also be available at the Aquarium at Calhoun Street and Concord Street. All parking will be free until Noon.

Several streets will be closed on Wednesday. Calhoun Street will be closed between Meeting Street and East Bay Street from 9:30am until 10:00am, and will be closed again from 11:15am until 11:30am. Anson Street at George Street will also be closed from 9:30am to 10:00am.
