Folly Beach looking to further regulate city's appearance

A year and eight months in the making, weighing in at some 280 pages, Folly Beach's proposed Zoning and Land Development Ordinance would bring a host of a new and revised regulation to the city.

Giant shark-head signs could be out, new tree protection in, and building size regulation in, among others.

The proposal's size and bureaucratic nature is both impressive and intimidating, so here's what I suggest to best wrap your brain around it: Head over to The Post and Courier for their overview, and then head over to the city's Web site to check for specifics that might be of concern to you.

There will be another round of hearings, but the city notes "If you wish to participate in the final form of the new Zoning Ordinance now is the time!"

The meeting is at 7 tonight, September 15, at the Folly Beach City Hall at 21 Center Street.
