The College of Charleston's Department of Physics and Astronomy is once again holding an open house where you can learn about and gaze at the stars.

The open house is on Friday, January 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Here's details:

The observatory and observing deck will be open to the public. We will also have fun activities and demonstrations for all ages in rooms on the first floor of the science building. Enter the Rita Liddy Hollings Science Center Rita Liddy Hollings Science Center via the Coming Street entrance and check in with the Society of Physics Students host (who will assign you a time for the planetarium showing and direct you to the location of the indoor activities).

If you plan to bring a large group (10 or more), or if you will need special accommodations, please let us know ahead of time by contacting (truec@cofc.edu, 843-953-2031).

Open-toed shoes are not permitted on the observing deck. Please dress warmly (it can be several degrees cooler and much windier on the roof than at ground level).

You can scrape up more info on their Web site.

I know it's cold out there, but the colder weather means less humidity, which means better stargazing.

Don't be shy, head over to the Rita Liddy Hollings Science Center at 58 Coming Street tonight to check out what the observatory has to offer!

The College will hold more open houses in the Observatory on the third Friday of each month.
