'Catch The Leprechaun 5K' kicks off St. Patrick's Day weekend

The Catch the Leprechaun 5K is back and it’s kicking off the St. Patrick’s Day weekend at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park.

Runners from across the country have signed up for the event on Thursday, March 15th, which combines a 3.1 mile run with a family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day party.

"People are always looking for something fun to do for St Patrick’s Day,” said Race Director Mike McKenna. “Our race encourages them to get outside, exercise and have a good time.”

Once the bagpiper starts playing at 6:15 p.m., runners will line up at the starting line to take on the speedy Leprechaun. If they are fast enough to finish before him, they will receive a mug which will be carried around with pride at the post-race party. The top finishers will
receive a cast iron pot filled with gold coins while food, drinks and live music will be enjoyed by all. The race entry, shirt and St Patrick’s Day party are all included in the $30 fee. No matter how lucky you are feeling, you are going to be hard pressed to find a better deal on St Patrick’s Day weekend.

Organizers are expecting the crowd to exceed 1,000 at this fundraiser for Pattison’s Academy for Comprehensive Education. Generous donations from Turnkey Creative, Sertoma Club of Mt. Pleasant, Piggly Wiggly, Greenwood Capital, NBM Construction, Charleston Construction Consultants, Duleavy’s Pub and the Cooper River Bridge Run have been instrumental to the race and to help fund the school for children with multiple disabilities.
