Charleston Battery's 2012 season is underway; home opener this Saturday

2012 is the Charleston Battery’s 20th anniversary season and the Battery kicked it with a 2-1 win over its oldest rival, the Richmond Kickers, on Saturday.

The Battery and the Kickers have been battling since 1993, both teams are celebrating their 20th anniversaries in 2012 and along with fellow USL PRO side the Charlotte Eagles are the longest continuously operating professional soccer teams in the United States.

The Charleston Battery home opener is set for Saturday, April 14th, at Blackbaud Stadium. Gates open at 6 p.m. and kick off will follow at 7:30 p.m.

The Battery plays a 24 game USL PRO regular season and will also compete in the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
