Nonstop service between Charleston and Cleveland will end after Sept. 3. This is a result of Continental Airlines trying to save costs by closing many routes and hubs.

The cuts will reduce 11 percent of the airline's domestic capacity and eliminate 3,000 (7 percent) of its employees.

Of course, this all assumes that no one else will open nonstop service between the cities, which seems unlikely.

Earlier this month a spike in airfares was noticed, particularly in Charleston, where prices on some carriers' routes tripled.
