Lane closures on I-26 start Monday

Part of the three-year project to widen Interstate 26, the first of an untold number of lane closures is expected from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Thursday of this week. For more on the road-widening project, check out our story from about a week ago.

While this lane closure will only last a few days, you should expect to find more during the course of the project, though when those will occur is anybody's guess at this point. The project won't involve any daytime lane closures, though, so hopefully congestion will be kept to a minimum. Officials say that neither this nor any other lane closures with the project should affect daytime traffic patterns.

From The Post and Courier:

Work will be concentrated in the Remount Road area first before moving to Aviation Avenue, where two of the loops on the cloverleaf will disappear and new on and off ramps will be constructed. New collector lanes similar to those on I-26 at Ashley Phosphate Road also will be added.
