Lunch Break: Kaminsky's NY Deli

*reprinted with permission from Myrtle Beach Scene*

Mike Kaminsky has been at the beach for a while. Former owner of Goldberg's Deli in North Myrtle Beach, Mike got tired of making bagels at 3 a.m. and decided to set up his own shop, Kaminsky's NY Deli.

Kaminsky's NY Deli has been open for years, mind you but a little back story is needed so you know we're dealing with a guy who knows how to run a deli. Kaminsky's is probably one of the only authentic New York-style deli along the Grand Strand - complete with a thick New York accent, and oh so New York attitude (all positive things).

Kaminsky's is a great little deli that is packed for breakfast and lunch, however the service is pretty fast and we all know good things come to those who wait! All of Kaminsky's offerins taste fresh and handmade.

The Food:

I decided to treat my lady friend to lunch at this quickly-becoming-famous Myrtle Bech deli. We both ordered a couple of Kaminsky's signature sandwiches. The sandwiches we chose?

Classic Reuben - $7.99: A New York deli tradition of tender corned beef stacked high with sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese and Russian dressing on rye bread.

I am always on the hunt for a great reuben locally. To me the reuben is the definition of a New York deli sandwich - some may argue the hot pastrami (also a favorite). And Kaminsky's Classic Reuben might be the best I've had in the area. Hot, fresh corned beef on nicely toasted rye topped with yummy Russian (1,000 Island) Dressing (It's the same thing, right?) and crunchy sauerkraut. It's a pretty perfect sandwich.

Godfather -$7.99: A hot roast beef, topped with mozzarella cheese.

The lady friend ordered this one, and she doesn't like anything on her sandwiches -meat and cheese only please - so this sandwich is perfect for her. I had a little taste and it was, again, perfectly toasted with hot, moist and medium-rare roast beef. But, for my taste, rather pain....I require condiments/flavor! Nonetheless, this was a good sandwich.

Sides? Yeah, Kaminsky's got them!

For the lady, she decided to get the cucumber and tomato salad and I picked the tuna macaroni. The tuna macaroni is delicious. Fresh made from Kaminsky's own recipe. The cucumber salad was also tasty and of course healthier than my tuna macaroni choice.

Kaminsky's offers some of the best New York-style foods around. Kaminsky's walls are adorned with love for New York - photos of the Twin Towers, signed photo of Vincent Pastore AKA Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero of The Sopranos,  and framed firefighter and police badges.
