Children's Museum partnering with Darkness to Light and Girlology to host a series of sexual education lectures

Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry is hosting a series of three lectures in partnership with Darkness to Light and led by Dr. Trish Hutchison, Co-Founder of Girlology & Guyology. The Children’s Museum will provide the venue as well as child care for all three lectures.

Scheduled Lectures:

Denis Chirles, Executive Director of the Museum said, “We are very proud of our partnership with Darkness to Light and Girlology. It is not only our goal to make the Children’s Museum a safe place, but to be an educational resource for families to insure the safety of all the children in our community.”

The first lecture on Thursday, August 23rd from 6:00pm – 8:00pm entitled “Parents as Sexuality Educators: Toddlers to Tweens” is completely free to the public and the Museum is providing free childcare for members and $10 for non members. This lecture will answer the question many parents face: how do you educate and empower your child without causing fear? Dr. Trish Hutchison says the first step is to become comfortable as your child’s sexuality educator so you can raise your child in an environment that has removed the shame, silence, and embarrassment from discussions related to sexuality. Dr. Hutchison will provide facts, tools and some nudging to help you become the go-to person for your children when it comes to having all of “those” conversations. Parents will walk away with new confidence and the skills that will help on your parenting journeys through normal sexual development, sexual abuse prevention, puberty and “THE talk.”
