Leighton Lord Elected Board Chairman of Nexsen Pruet Law Firm

Leighton LordNexsen Pruet attorneys have elected Leighton Lord as the law firm’s Chairman of the Board, effective July 1, 2016. As Chairman, Lord will shape the vision and strategy for the eight offices of the firm.

“Leighton and I have worked together for more than 22 years, and he has my full confidence and support. I am certain he will do an extraordinarily good job,” said John Sowards, who has served as Chairman since 2010. “The years ahead hold great promise for the firm.”

Lord joined Nexsen Pruet in 1994 and has previously served as chairman from 2005 through 2010. Lord also helped formed NP Strategy, the firm’s communications subsidiary and will continue his involvement with NP Strategy.

“I am excited and honored to serve as chairman again,” said Lord. His goals for the firm’s employees are simple. Lord stated, “I want each of you to be proud of where you work. But more importantly, I want you to be proud of the work you do here at Nexsen Pruet.”

Leighton Lord’s legal practice is focused in the areas of economic development, corporate, partnership and real estate law. His legal practice has a special emphasis on economic development, real estate financing, commercial leasing and Delaware law. Lord currently serves as Chair of Santee Cooper as well as Vice Chair of the Palmetto Economic Development Corporation.

Prior to joining Nexsen Pruet, Lord clerked for the prestigious Delaware Chancery Court before practicing corporate litigation in Wilmington, Delaware. He also served for three years as staff counsel to the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

Lord and his wife of 24 years, Caroline, have three children: Will, Owen and Isabelle. When not in the office, Lord enjoys spending time with family & watching his children’s sporting events.
