Boeing unveils its massive rooftop solar panel project

Boeing was abuzz about green energy on Friday as it unveiled one of the most powerful single rooftop solar installations in the United States and the largest in the Southeast.
The planned 2.6-megawatt rooftop photovoltaic system, which is made up of more than 18,000 thin-film photovoltaic solar laminates covers 10 acres on the roof of the 14-acre Boeing South Carolina 787 Final Assembly building — that's about eight football fields and it generates about enough energy to power 250 homes.

Relatedly, the company opened its new "Interiors Responsibility Center" in Ladson that will make interior components (stow bins, closets, head rests, etc.) for the 787 Dreamliners being made down the road in North Charleston.
