Update November 16, 2011: The Burgess Community continues pressing forward with plans to accomodate growth and changes in their area.

On November 10th at a community meeting, a Area Plan was presented and made available for public comment. The plan focuses primarily on roads but there is also an emphasis on maintaining an identity for the community. The Sun News has a recap of the meeting. You can see the current draft of the steering plan here (PDF). We also have the presentation available for your viewing below.

First Report: Anticipating challenges from the widening of Highway 707 project, Burgess community business owners have banded together to take matters into their own hands to boost their economy.

A part of their plan includes an awareness campaign to let people know who and where Burgess is (we've provided a map for you). They have also tapped Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce to attend an event on August 25th called the South Strand Business Summit. The Sun News has more about what else they plan to do. Read it here.
