The South Carolina Association of Community Development Corporations hosted an economic development conference on the Grand Strand this week.

According to the event web page:

The 2011 South Carolina Community Economic Development Conference will highlight aspects of CED, to include Job Development, Renewable Energy, the Green Economy and Housing Preservation for the future of South Carolina's economic prosperity.

The keynote speaker, Jamal Simmons, in particular, believes Internet connectivity is a key driver of economic development. This is good news for the Myrtle Beach area. As we reported from the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation's annual meeting, telecommunications infrastructure is one of our area's key assets. Adva Saldinger, of The Sun News, has a write-up about Jamal and the conference. Read it here.
