After 96 years of providing Lowcountry residents, the family-owned Charleston Paint Company on upper King Street is closing up shop.

The recession has taken a toll on numerous King Street businesses, and unfortunately, Charleston Paint Co. is its most recent casualty. Money stopped rolling in as contract business dropped off due to the housing bubble burst leaving Charleston Paint Co. high and dry.

"It was just time" co-owner Andy Blanton said about the decision to close.

The Post and Courier has the story as well as a fond look back the nearly century old business.
