Take a look at Savannah: It reminds that not all industrial hopes come true

At this point there's absolutely no reason to think that the promise of Boeing won't come to full fruition, but although the shovels have already hit the ground, it doesn't necessarily mean things will be as busy as promised

Read more stories on this subject in our manufacturing topic page.For evidence of such realities we need only look at Savannah, namely today's edition of The Savannah Morning News with its lengthy piece about the industrial mega site that has hope turned to disappointment time and time again.

Most notable is this paragraph:

So when the deal with DaimlerChrysler to build a Sprinter van plant went south in 2002 - and with it the promise of 3,500 high-paying jobs and $500 million in investment - most insiders thought it would be just a matter of time before another such suitor came along.  

Not as big as Boeing's South Carolina deal, but frighteningly close.
